I own a Cheribini Hunter 27 1979 vintage with the mainsheet fixed to the aft end of the boom and want to fit a Bimini. From what I understand it looks like I need to add a bridge section across the coachroof with the traveller to enable a bimini to cover the cockpit. Has anyone completed this move/addition and can you tell me where/what equipment they purchased and where/costs Thanks Jacko

Two options. . . .

that I have seen. One, obviously, is to pay the piper and buy everything ready-made. I believe the least expensive to be from Garhauer. Quality at the lowest cost it seems from the purchases I have made. Harken is the other that comes to mind. But I have also seen the traveler bar moved from the bridgedeck(on an H37C like mine) to homemade towers. The towers can be elaborately built or not. The traveler can be mounted to a cross piece or not. You can rig lines for adjustment or simply do it manually standing in the companionway. On the boom you need three bails and lots of blocks to get at least 6:1 purchase. You lose a lot of leverage and a lot of the ease of trimming when you move it up there.

Check out the Owner's photos on this site under Boat Info; Model Information; Owner's Photos, etc. Most with a Bimini have added a mid-boom sheeting traveler; and one shows an old fashioned split mainsheet run to either side of the cabintop. In the summer sun having the bimini is priceless. We were able to add a decent Bimini from just behind the mainsheet to our stern rail on our 28.5 as our mainsheet is on a traveler just at the companionway.
