We've dabbled a little...
off the H26 over the last few years from South Puget Sound through the San Juans, Gulf Islands, Desolation Sound and points in between. Our experience has been not much different from the coastal fishing we do off the Oregon coast with respect to techniques and methods. However, I would advise watching the US and Canadian regulations, particularly with respect to the shellfish. Seasons vary widely over small distances through specialized regions and many protected areas are identified as conducive to shellfish contaminants even though they may be technically "open". Also, north of Vancouver City, the depths pretty much constrain the crabbing but there are some nice areas for prawns. We did have some luck in the southern areas with the little crab 'snares', a lot more convenient to pack and stow.A question that has occured to me, that I have never heard a good answer to, is that, technically, most jurisdictions prohibit disassembly of fish onboard to protect the right of DFW to measure the catch; yet, if one is going to prepare a fresh catch for a meal onboard, the fish/crabs/whatever never make it to shore. Anyone clear on this?
