My hull isn't cored. One thing that wasn't mentioned in the manual for the fishfinder that I purchased was mounting it in the hull. I looked at an Eagle and also Hummingbird fishfinder and both their manuals had sections on shooting through the hull. Maybe the transducer on mine just couldn't handle it?

You can use a wax toilet ring to bed the transducer to the hull temporarily (actually its pretty sticky so possibly permanent) to find a good mounting location. You can knead it up into a ball and "squish" the transducer into it at the mounting location. The trick is to make sure there are no air pockets, it will throw off the readings.

FYI, if the solid hull has any voids in it, they will interfere with the transducer working properly.

Just to let ya'll know, I got the extension and moved the transducer up 4' in front of the keel and used Boatlife caulk to attach it to the hull. Seems to work just fine in the slip. Will give it a good test this weekend.

Was surprised that the liner was almost an inch thick solid fiberglass though (had to drill through to get to the hull where I wanted to put the transducer). And they say Hunters are weak :)
