I have seen articles talking about the use of a fish finder with the transducer mounted inside the hull in some kind of liquid medium so that no hole needs to be drilled through the hull. Has anyone attempted this on a 260 and if so do you have any tips on location and mounting.

Did it on a 26...

...glued the transducer to the hull w/epoxy under the aft berth next to the bilge pump. This is the location Hunter recommends for the H26 and the 260. No other spot is really suitable because of the ballast tank; anywhere forward of the tank would be in turbulence from the bow wave. As per tips from this forum, I stuck it down first with KY jelly to make sure there were no air pockets in the chosen spot on the hull.

My 26 has one too!

I installed a Garmin GPS MAP 125, which is a combination GPS & Fish Finder. I installed on a quick release bracket, and purchased a second one. When the boat is unattended, it is mounted behind the companionway step, and installed in the cockpit while sailing. It lets you see bottom contours, bottom type and best of all, it shoots through the hull.

glue....

I chose to get a Horizon depth sounder. On my boat I use 3M 4200 or 5200 to glue everything, so when I installed the sensor mount I used 3M 4200. Worked great, except by the next summer the mineral oil that I filled the mount with bled through the 4200. If you install an oil filled - shoot through the hull sensor, use an epoxy type sealant!!! It was a real pain trying to clean the old 4200 off the boat and sensor mount.

just did it

I just installed a Pirana II fish finder in my hunter 22. I used PVC pipe just large enogh to fit the transducer in and epoxied it to the hull up in the bow. I used mineral oil as my fluid medium. let me know if this helps.

Silicone glue works fine

I mounted the transducer from a Humminbird portable near the bilge pump on the inside of the aft hull. I used a pool of regular silicone cement. It works fine, and if I want to remove it, it will peel out easily.
