I have been watching these treads. My question is were do you guys like to mount the display for the finder. I have a 94' Hunter 26 with no electronics except a marine radio. The previous owner did not even mount the 6" compass that was in the boat. I quess he just held it. This winter I would like to add a few goodies. I though a depth finder but pretty much the views around here lead to a fish finder with a puck transceiver. Any help or guidence would be appreciated. Thanks, Carl Bader

Learn from my mistake

I mounted a fishfinder on the port bulkhead in the cockpit of my H26. I ran the wires from the transducer and power through the headliner over the aft berth and leave them coiled there when not in use. The problem I found after the fact is the unit is in the way when trying to lounge against the bulkhead or going forward on the port side. I had tried talking the wife into letting me put a swing out mount on the head wall just inside the companionway but she wouldn't go for it. Looking forward to other responses on this as I may be moving the mount one day. Jim Covey s/v Wampeter

Same

Except I mounted it on the starboard side. Either way, you'll have trouble lounging against the bulkhead on that side; but you would with a compass mounted or anything else, I guess. Just make sure you mount it low enough that the top of the fishfinder is a couple of inches below the level of your upper deck, or you'll be kicking it every time you go up to tend to mast, jib or whatever.

Try the transom

On my H-23 I mounted the fish finder in the cockpit on the transom. It is very easy to see just under the tiller. Works for me!!! Dave Laing

Compression Post

I mounted my Raytheon on the compression post inside the cabin. I can see the depth readout from the cockpit. I can't see any detail on the fishfinder display, but the first mate can observe it from in the cabin. I reasoned that the unit would be protected from sun and weather inside. It has worked great so far. It is easy to hide the wires inside the compression post.

swing arm

I have a 240 and mounted my fishfinder on a swing arm on the inside starboard side. It swings into the companion way while sailing, then back inside when not needed. It seems to work great. I got the arm at West Marine.
