I spoke with FP after this was posted, and there is a maintenance kit for the bearing and o-rings. They are suggesting 1000hr change.

I also queried about clear oil that I was seeing under the FP box after I would run it for an extended time. I always assumed that it was spilled engine oil that was being blown out via the intake pulses. NOT. It is most likely gear oil from a leaking seal.

Dick L, thanks for posting this thread. It is likely that you saved my gens set from death.

If you see any clear oil residue under or near the FP, check it out.

Thanks.

uncledom: Another point is; I have never had much success in running an inverter at 85% load! The best I have reliably done is about 75% of max. About like trying to run your 2K gen at 2K output! Right? Happy Holidays, Chief

Chief I never mentioned inverter usage, some one else speculated about that. As I said I am having a problem and it has to do with the way the boat is factory wired. I have a generator that can put out 46 amps @ 120 volts while the panels are wired for 30 amps. I can also load two panels onto the first by using the parallel breaker. I will diagram it out and bounce it off a few people but even at first blush it seems to be a problem. One of the first things I plan on doing is installing an ammeter on each panel feed. I foolishly assumed safety was built in and now I'm not so sure.
