First timer fixing a crack, is the repair area big enough?

Newbie here, trying to get this Javelin in the water soon. It came with a crack in the bottom. I've sanded down about six inches around the crack in each direction, trying to slope as I go, but no idea if it's the correct ratio.

Is the sanded area big enough that it will be structurally/water sound after the patch or do I need to keep going. If so how big should it be? Also the crack is about a foot long.

Thanks so much!

10:1 depth to width from the crack is recommended so a 1/4 deep crack would need 10/4" or 2.5" ground down from the crack. If you did 6 inches that would cover a crack 6/10" or a little more than 5/8" deep

Use a straight edge across the crack and a ruler to measure how deep you went.

too much of the hull is being sanded or grounded out. Before going any further take a photo of the interior of the hull if you can reach it. Post that before doing anything. I was a small sailboat dealer having repaired hulls and continue to this day at scout camps as a volunteer.

Dave, I don't think I can get a photo of the interior, at least nothing that will show anything.

Email me with your name and phone number to include location so I do not call late or early and I will tell you how to repair that crack. I am known to take out large sections of mutilated Aqua Fin or Sunfish decks that you cannot get to underneath. It is simple and I will tell you. Then when done, post what you did with photos. My hands are hurting right now due to heck week or staff week with Scout boats. If my hands are better, I will put in a long post.
