I'm thinking about a furling system for the headsail. Does anyone have recommendations?
I have the original sail plus a genoa. My guess on the genoa is about 130%

You have to have the luff recut to fit the furler. ... and you need to add the U-resistant fabric to the tailing edge. If the Genoa is also original, it is probably not worth recutting. You will have to buy a new headsail.

Tim, furler systems come in several price ranges and structures. You will need to decide what your pocketbook says about this addition. A common model uses an aluminum foil extrusion that holds your foresail/genoa in place. It uses a 6mm channel to insert the sail. Your sail needs a luff line so that the sail can be inserted into the furler extrusion. I think this is what @rgranger has in mind when he talks about "recutting your sail." If you have the "hank-on" type of fastener for attaching your sail to the forestay, buying a new sail might be less expensive than altering your old sail.

The view from here . Most of us starting our boat owning experiances with a smaller boat . I've owned and used CDI branded furlers for perhaps 25 years . Tough ,durable and affordable . Are they as good as a Harken ? No the foil itself bends and doesn't present as a clean a surface as an aluminum foil does. The CDI brand has many followers in the smaller boat category as the mast is easily stepped without the potential for damage .

Yeah, can't go wrong with a CDI. You will need to have a luff tape added to your sail (choose the Genoa for that), or itay be time to guy a new sail at the same time.

CDI was sold recently to a company out in California. I do not have their current contract information but this forum store continues to be a dealer for CDI. I second the recommendation for CDI as I introduced their smaller furlers way back when

CDI is not far removed from our SBO family. It was purchased last year by non other than our "JudyB". When I chatted with her last December they were in the throws of transition. She helped me figure out a possible solution for a boat owner with an extrusion issue. She is right on top of her stuff.
With her knowledge of sails this should be a great connection for the boat owners wanting a viable and affordable furler system like that of CDI.

I would also look at a Schaefer CF-500. It's in the same price range as the CDI, but in my opinion is a much better system. It has a top swivel bearing, does not have the built-in halyard, and the lower furling assembly comes off for trailering. Many of the Schaefer features are the same as found on their bigger systems.
