I got the frame up and the shrinkwrap on just in time this weekend for last nights little snow event. NOAA called for less than 1/2" but we ended up with 2-3".

Now we have a nice little sun porch for relaxing this winter.

Nice work! Bet you were happy not to be driving yesterday... sounded like total chaos on the streets of Portland.

Tim,
What are you doing for heat over the winter? I've used electric heaters but could not say I was toasty warm in the boat and then only in the 20's, I assume you will be facing some sub zero weather this winter? Do you shut off all the ventilation to keep it warm? Just curious. Even here in NC December has been very cold, in the 20's at night and only getting up to the high 30's or low 40's most of the days. Must be global warming.

2-3 causes total chaos? Interesting. We had 4 here in Mpls last night and barely had much of an issue. Though, the 17 we had on the 11th did cause a few problems....

Unfortunately I did have to drive last night. The inital snow melted and refroze creating some ice and then it snowed over that and we had lots of accidents.

Happens every year for the first snowfall. People forget that you have to drive differently in snow. We should be good from here on out.

Dave, the boat already had a reverse cycle AC/heater that we have been using while I installed an ITR Hurrican H2 heater with 3 zones. It is a diesel furnace that heats an AF mixture that is piped to small raidators with low voltage fans throughout the boat. The same system can be used to produce on-demand HW or preheat your engine. It runs entirely on 12v while the reverse cycle requires 110v.

The water temp here is still in the 40s and we manage to get the reverse cycle system to heat the boat up to 65° as long as the outside temp is above 20°. Below that and it really struggles. I would think this would work great in your climate.

Tim - are you living aboard over the winter?
Yup. Me, the wife and the dog. We have been very comfortable and have our daily routine nailed down.

Is that slip in front of Dimillo's? it looks like those condo's behind you. Your cover, are the hoops PVC or aluminum? I can't quite make it out. And the plastic, is it tied to the slots in the toe rail? Custom made by an old salt off India St.?

Yes, we are at Dimillos. The hoops are 3/4" PVC conduit. The conduit is attached to a 2x4 center ridge that runs bow to stern. The hoops are bowed in such a way as to clear the lifelines. That is clear 7mil shrinkwrap that is tied to the toerail with a small gap to allow for air circulation. There are larger air gaps on each side of the bow sprit. The top of the door frame is just barely visible at the stbd rear quarter just above the dock steps.

My wife has been decorating so I will have to post another pic with the xmas lights on.

We didn't. We were shrinking the cover that day but stopped long enough to watch the parade.
