First sail on our 19-2 finally took place last week. Winds were steady around 10 and gusts up to 17 according to someone from the sailing group at Crosswinds Marina when we went out. I decided to use the main, not reefed and no headsail. Our previous boat was a Catalina 22 and we could generally sail in that configuration.
I learned that:
- I really need the head sail along with the main to track better (and that I may not have had the centerboard fully deployed, subject of another post), I should also learn to reef the mainsail!
- After about 20 minutes I realized that there were no battens in the mainsail. When we took it down I noticed the pockets (where might I find batten material?)
- if there is a slight crack in the forward hatch "window(?)", don't step on it, you'll go all the way through! I had noticed the crack but inadvertently stepped there when I was retrieving the anchor...oops. (where might I find a replacement?)
Aside from a few things we had a good time getting out. It's been almost 2 years since we've been sailing! The best part of the day was taking our 8 year old grandson for his first sail!
I'm looking forward to getting to know this boat better (and hopefully breaking less stuff)!
Thank you in advance for any input or suggestions
Mark
