First sail complete....sort of

I finally got the c22 to Stockton lake MO on Saturday.

The good
No leaks, motor ran like a dream. Boat feels extremely stable with the keel down. Had an awesome time. I was able to get the boat to move, turn, stop, and go places.

The bad
I don't know how to sail lol. (That will come)
I didn't have something right with the main sail, didn't take photos in my excitement, but it wasn't the right shape in the wind.

Although I was able to make the boat go places, they weren't the places I intended to go, again that will come. The fish finder (depth sounder) wouldn't come on so I will be installing a new one.
It took way too long to set up and take down, I need to work out a system (probably climbed the ladder to get something either off the boat or out of the truck 30 times.

All in all, the boat didn't sink, didn't leak, I didn't fall off and the motor ran perfectly. Things went better than expected. I call that a success.

Cheers

While on the trailer during a calm morning, raise the sail, take a picture and post it here. We may be able to help with the fitting.

Sounds like you had a great first outing.

Rigging took me about 2 hours the first sail of the season. With practice I got it down to 90 minutes. I would never win a contest.
It took me a little less than 2 hours to set up, was chatting with a friend taking down and it took a little longer. I had the boom above the notch in the mast and wonder if it should have been below. Where I was, there was no cell service for me to look at scans of a 50 year old manual on my cell phone. I am glad that those scans are available by the way.

When I had my M15 it took about 30 minutes to rig and splash it there was no one else at the launch ramp.
Then I could motor away into space and raise the sails, after parking the car and trailer.

This only happened when I had prepared the boat before I left the house. Pulling out was about the same.

Now when I head out from the marina it is much the same thing but I often take more than an hour to get the boat ready to untie the lines. There are the systems to check, deck to clean and gear to stowaway.

Life was simpler on the trailer boat. But now I can sail farther and in more comfort. Sailing is so often a series of compromises.

The boom goes below. The boltrope on the main gets threaded into the slot. I had a set of mast gates that screwed into place after the main was threaded that kept it from failling out when I dropped the sail. Your profile says you have a Chrysler C22 so I don't know if these will fit, but here's the idea:

I did a quick search of the shop on SBO but didn't see anything similar.

Every boat is going to take a different amount of time to setup and launch. Ramps and tow vehicles play a role as well. There are many things you can do to speed things up. Practice, trying new techniques and small hardware changes are at the top of the list. As for your sail, I'm guessing it could be one of the following: outhaul not tight enough, main halyard/downhaul/vang not tight enough, boom in wrong position or the sail is worn. Pics would help

I was wondering about the outhaul. I didnt see a good way to get it tightened any more. Someone else indicated that I may have had my boom too high as well.

If weather permits, the boat will hit the water next weekend and I will get photos.

Every boat will be setup a bit different. Youre fortunate to have a manual available. I'm sure someone here will be able to guide you
