This rain has got to stop..I only have 2 more weeks of sailing before I have to put away my new toy-1981 oday 25-purchased about a week ago..On the bright side I am looking forward to spiffing her up and modding..I am not going to do anything until I pull her-dont wanna waste precious sail time..I think a good cleaning is first in line when she gets pulled..outside and deck will have to be power washed..and I will get a better idea of how the paint is holding up..whats the best way to clean the hull? I know it will probably not be easy getting all that slime and growth off the bottom..any tips?I think the next thing I will do is empty out all cushions and gear out of cabin and wipe down everything with a light bleach solution-to kill anything that may be growing..next I am going to oil up all the cabin wood and make the vanity sinks shiny..I am also thinking about reupholstering the cushions and redoing the wall coverings..oh and I am going to buy one of those stereo packs from west marine(includes a stereo with ipod connection and two speakers), and wire it up somewhere inside the cabin..boat came with a stereo with 2 outside speaker-but cant seem to get stereo to work..and in the spring hopefully all thats left is varnishing the teak and bottom painting...very excited

Oh I forgot one of the questions I had..I would like to mount the stereo and speakers in a place where they take up little to no room..Does anybody have a stereo setup in their 25 that works well? any suggestions for wiring? was going to wire directly to battery...
I bought these speakers on ebay and had an old head unit, you can buy a housing to hold the stereo. I mounted my head unit right above the sink.
Wire the head unit to an accessory switch on your circuit panel, you'll have an inline fuse and you can turn it off easily. If you wire the stereo to the battery you'll probably end up killing your battery, especially if you forget to turn the stereo off when you leave the boat.

You will want to keep the speakers away from your compass and also the autopilot. A good power washer will take the dirt right out of Teak rails and pen boards and clean it up faster than Teak cleaner, but the oil needs to be put back into the Teak as soon as possible or the wood will dry up and get real rough. Wiring direct to the battery is OK as long as there is a fuse in between. I think that the radios come with an in line fuse. I know that my VHF did. It's always a sad day when you have to pull her out of the water, but the real fun begins when you start making those little personalized changes to her, most commonly called mods. I've done about thirty in all, some good and some not so good. Good luck with that 25!

First, be careful with the pressure washer, you can strip out the bedding mat'l around and under all deck fittings and hardware. Also, too much pressure will "grain" the wood-remove the softer wood from the harder wood leaving a very rough "driftwood" like surface.
For the stereo, i mounted mine on the starboard bulkhead just above the settee cushion. I just cut a rectandular hole in the bulkhead the dim provided by the stereo mfg. The body of the stereo is inside the lower sink cabinet and wires run up and over the bulkhead and to the switch panel. I put mine to the switch panel so I can shut everything off when leaving the boat for long periods. The display on the stereo stays on even when you turn off the unit. It is a slight hassle to reprogram my preset stations when I go out each time, but I don't want any extra drain to my bats. Enjoy your mods projects. Do it right the first time and be proud! I think pressure washing is a bad idea. I do not see how you can avoid loosening your fittings...and that is bad, very bad.
I use a mix recommend by don casey of a bit of liquid laundry detergent such as whisk, a bit of bleach, and a large sponge. I guess it would be ok to pressure wash the hull but you would remove the anti fouling paint in some instances
I recommend Don Caseys "this old boat". It has most of the basic stuff you need to know about keeping you sailboat in top shape. He also has smaller books of subjects tha you can buy as you go. It sounds like right now you would like to have the one called "Sailboat refinishing". It covers maintaining and or restoring all the surfaces on your new boat

You should be able to solve that problem by hooking your power switch to the accessory switch wire on your stereo unit. Similar to a vehicle, when the ignition is off the stereo is off, if you hook the stereo up with your power wire to the switch then you will cut the memory each time you switch it off.
