Getting things together for my first oil change. Looking for recommendations for a good oil change pump. Anyone have a particular favorite?

I'm sure you get what you pay for but I picked one up at Walmart from the automotive section for about $10.00 and it worked great.

It works great, the oil needs to be warm to promote passage through the pump, and I taped the hoses onto their connectors. I STRONGLY recommend you do so as well.

It takes me about 4 minutes to get most of the oil out of my 2GMF.

I put a cigarette lighter plug on the end of the power wires as I installed a lighter receptacle nearby. It makes it a lot easier.

I hope this helps,

Rich

I uses the hand vaccum pump type oil changer. It comes ineither 2.9Lt or 6.9Lt cylindrical container. You warmup the engine stick the tubr into the crankcase and pump the oil changer to form vaccum in the container. The vac sucks the oil into the contain. its alot cleaner than using hand pump.

I like the one rochester has and I have a 12volt pump type also which I like with a see clear container that I use and like it very much but to each his own and just make sure the engine is warm so the oil passes through the small tube and I push the tube down into the dip stick so it gets the bottom of oil pan, omce some thing I did wrong and not all the oil came out.

I find that there isn't room to maneuve the tube in the dipstick hole. So I'll never get all the oil. I guess that can't be helped.

I take a length of about 1/8" copper tubing and installed it at the end of the "floppy" tubing. The copper tubing should be long enough to reach the bottom of the oil sump and stick out the dip stick hole a few inches to be able to hold it and move the copper tubing around. That way you get almost all of the oil out. Cut the bottom of the copper tubing with a slight slant so it cant sit flush with the bottom and "suck shut". It works great for me and is way better than just using the "floppy" tubing.

Navigator,

THANKS for the great idea. Why didn't I think of that before? Sure saves squiggling (that's a nautical term you know) that plastic hose all around to get every drop.

Thanks,

Rich.

I MUCH prefer the old drain plug method. Just pull the plug and let gravity do all the work. It's also the only way to ALL the old oil out.
