Launching my new (used) Hunter 26 on Saturday - how much more water is needed to retrieve than launch? Our tidal range is only 2 feet and the Ramp is shallow. Was told I only need 2 feet to launch but what about when that water tank is full trying to get it out?? Techniques? Any comments would be much appreciated.

Depends on the ramp

The change in draft from the ballast is just a few inches. If the ramp allows 2 feet at low tide, you should be allright. You need to open the tank valve before you pull the boat out, and it drains fairly quickly.

The Steaper the Better

I am able to launch mine without the extension if I am at a steep enough ramp. With the extension most any ramp works if it is long enough. Just make sure you know where the ramp ends.

I also have a very shallow ramp so use the extended setting on the tongue of the trailer. When I come into the dock I only have about 3.5 to 4 feet of water under the aft end of the boat (the rudder is up). The forward roller on the trailer is out of the water a few inches and I have no problem putting her on the trailer. Good luck!

Rule of thumb

Back up until the exhaust is just out of the water, but don't let the wheels get halfway under. You don't want to have to retrieve both loved ones.
