As he approached the boat his first words were "I love sailboats."
It made me feel better, but I wasn't really worried, I've got all my documentation, two fire extinguishers, my throwable PFD, and everything else that could be possibly required.
"Howdy", I said back to him.
"I just came over to tell you a story because I think you will laugh, " he said.
"I'm always up for a laugh, what happen", I said.
"Well, we've gotten several calls complaining about a drunk boater. Miss ----- is an older lady in one of the waterfront houses. She's called several times."
"Really! "I asked?
"Yup, she said the guy in the sailboat is drunk! He can't drive a straight line to save his life. He goes this direction and then zigzags that direction and turns back to the way again."
"I'm afraid you may get some more calls, I've been going out several times per week..."
We had a good laugh, talked about sailboats, and then he left. A good experience overall. He didn't ask for any paperwork or act "official", just a nice guy.

My first experience was on a moonlight sail.

A small power boat pulled up along side to inform me that I was showing improper lights for night operation.
I made it clear I was under sail, which caused them to pull out the manual to figure out what I was talking about.
They just sort of disappeared with out another word.....

So true, what we do requires planning and patience. Non-sailors cannot understand why would anybody spend so much time and make so many course changes to travel a short distance. The old adage still stands, "you get on a powerboat to go somewhere but you get on a sailboat and you are already there". We will go out and spend a couple of hours just sailing back and forth in a small area and then challenge ourselves to dock the boat without touching the engine. We must look like retards.

Reminds me of the time in Washington, D.C., a guy was pulled over for drunk driving. This happened in the winter. The driver, somewhat surprised said he had not been drinking, but was driving to and fro to miss all the potholes.

Cop pulls a car over and asked if the guy had been drinking, saying "Your eyes look glazed- have you been drinking?". Driver replies, "No, but YOUR eyes look glazed. Have you been eating donuts?".

Yeah, we should all do what we can to build up the fish reefs.
Then why do they put so much effort into getting the pickups that went through the ice out in the spring?

It wasn't in Williston, FL, was it? I went through a brief skydiving phase a few years back, did four tandem jumps there.
Actually, that post was just a joke. I've jumped at Deland and Zephyrhills, and one little place next to Lake Okeechobee.
Tandems? If you could see the flowchart that a tandem instructor follows in case of a malfunction...
Well, let's just say "you have b*II$." I like b*II$.

Haha, yeah I didn't think the part about the cop was real ... but those guys over there are pretty crazy. Apparently drinking and jumping, including at night ... isn't exactly unheard of. LOL

Guy gets pulled over for suspicion of DUI.
After a brief discussion, cop says, "Ok, get out of the car."
"I can't. You get in. ----- Let me get these bottles out of your way."

In the not-too-recent past, no.
