So I radio in a bridge opening request for a bridge that is listed at 36 feet with an arch in the middle that adds another 3 feet if you can stay in the center. The bridge tender says I must be looking at the wrong boat you cant need this bridge opened. He did open the bridge after I agreed to check the mast height above the waterline. Alas I cannot find it anywhere. Does anyone know the mast height above the waterline of a 1989 First 285 I know I will have to add a bit the the wind indicator. gpeatick@yahoo.com

Your probably higher

your 'I' measurement is 32.51' (isn't that from the gooseneck up?) Add a few feet for the mast to the deck then another 5' from cabin top to waterline, and I'd say your over 36' easy. Ask the bridge tender if he's willing to pay for a new mast if you do hit?
