Whew...it has been a busy spring. I haven't seen Triple Play in two months. While I did refinish the hand rails and throw a coat of oil on the teak cockpit table and order my bottom paint she is far from ready to splash at this point.

At least two weekends were lost sitting on the beaches of Puerto Vallarta, Mexico on vacation, so I can't complain about those, but much of it has gone to supporting the renovation of two bathrooms. I have to tile the master bathroom shower today and perhaps grout tomorrow, but I also hope to escape to the boat tomorrow and at least remount the hand rails, wash her down and put on my maintenance coats of poli glow. I may even get to go today if I get off my butt and start tiling. At the moment I am waiting to wake up a little before firing up the tile saw.

Made it to the boat. Fixed the scratches in the keel and put on a fresh coat of bottom paint. I decided that stripping the hull would have to wait. Put on one of the newly varnished grab rails...but not for long as I realized after the fact that I put it on wrong. The tubular spacers are in the wrong orientation. Should be fun to fix and I used tons of butyl tap to seal it all up. I was working on the second one when a frigging monsoon hit.

I looked up and couldn't see the Boston sky line anymore. I had been informed that there was a tornado warning, but Boston isn't exactly Tornado alley and I wasn't concerned.

Then I saw a line of disturbance in the water heading for me across the bay and saw the boats at their moorings being tossed wildly as it hit them. I started to grab the companionway boards and go into the cabin, but decided that it wasn't a safe place to be as the boat is on the hard on stands surrounded by other boats. Fearing a tornado I dropped the boards and got off the boat pronto seeking refuge in an adjacent building. The wind averaged 45 mph with gusts to 65 mph wit driving rain and hail. Glad I wasn't out on the water for that one! The following is the wind chart for Logan Airport, which is just west of where my boat is on the hard.

Bob:

You really has a weather blow going on in the Beantown area. I was origionally a Long island boy. Now in N.C. and it has been a hot Spring here.
I have a long, never-ending, list of boat chores but have gotten distracted with the long, never-ending list of home improvemnts: new kitchen, revamp bathroom and complete the walk-in closet. Like a classic John Alden sailboat, my Victorian home is a labor of love to own. But as we know, day-dreaming about the boat we own is still a lot of pleasure, but I'd rather be sailing. As you tell your tale of woe, it proves to me your are normal like the rest of us, or maybe I am normal like the you!....Go Sox! Go Celtics!..Capt. Ray

Re: Bob - You Act Like Me

Old Victorians are are beautiful....and bless you for being the caretaker of one...but I'll pass on that experience thank you very much. There is some beautiful workmanship in those old homes...however they are a handful and dealing with "improvements" made by previous owners can make life interesting for sure.

I am really looking forward to getting Triple Play wet in a couple of weeks. All I have to do is flush the engine and yell at the mooring guy and I will be in.

Hi Bob,
I saw that squall from a big top tent on the UMass athletic field. We were up your way for the WUMB Folk Festival on Sunday. There were some singing tethers on that canvas! Makes us appreciate good riggers. I've been in the water for a month and scrubbing bird dirt before each outing. I think I've got them discouraged now with a few strategically placed lines over the boom and spreaders that interfere with their landing efforts. My neighbor in the mooring field was getting hammered much worse last weekend.

It was a mean one for sure. I lucked out in that the rain was driven sideways so not too much got in Triple Play even though the companionway was open. However, I made up for it because the rear window of my truck was cracked three inches on the weather side and the whole interior was wet.
