Last yr I hastily painted a little excess gelcoat on this crack and made a bit of a mess of it ... and never cleaned it up. If I sand/grind out the fine cracks and excess gelcoat does anyone know how I restore the textured/anti-skid deck surface pictured. Thanks.

First, you need to widen the cracks into a V shape. You could use a Dremel tool to do that. You need to have more surface area for the gel coat to adhere to.
Then, you could use plastic modeling clay to make an imprint of the non-skid, and press that over the patch to impart some texture to it. Or so I have heard.

I have assisted friend of mine performing similar repair. We have used dragonskin http://www.smooth-on.com/Silicone-Rubber-an/c2_1115_1129/index.html?catdepth=1 to make a mould of existing non-skid pattern. It was placed on top of fresh gelcoat and "locked in place" to recreate non-skid pattern. It worked very well.
Thanks again. I checked out all 3 links and this sounds doable. Might even give the paraffin wax a go since readily available and cheap.
