Finding water intrusion

I've noticed in my starboard shelf amidships just forward of the galley counter a high concentration of moisture. It looks like something spilled in there in the corners but nothing did. I cant tell if it was because of the rain or if it was because the rail was in the water sailing and its coming in through the toe rail, jib tracks or teak handrail. I re-bed the windows a few months ago so know its not the window.

Anyone have a problem in this area before? Someone also mentioned that the lifeline stantions can be a problem area too.

At this time of year, you could be getting condensation in that area. In a similar area on my C310, the side deck above the shelf gets cold from the cooler outside air in the fall, and the moisture in the cabin tends to bead up and drip. I keep a lamp turned on under the side deck when we are on shore power, and that keeps the area dry.

You may want to check the window gaskets. They tend to leak but can be resealed with the gasket material that they sell on this site.

I dried out the area with a space heater then kept a closer eye on it.

We haven't had any rain for the past few days but went sailing in some rougher winter conditions that had he toe rail in the water most of the time. More water was found and it was salty.

I've tightened all the bolts on the toe rail a year or so ago and found some that were pretty loose. I'll probably have to re-bed them? I was thinking of adding a bead of 4200 at the toe rail/deck (from the top).

Any ideas?

On mine, leak is on Port side. Small leak from Stanchion mounting screws.

How did you fix the leak? Rebed the screws?

I'm going to run a bead of 4200 down the rail once it stops raining so much and isnt freezing out. Where the toe rail and fiberglass meet. Its where the water runs down the toe rail towards the back of the boat before going over the side.

I rebed with RTV (silicone). Not the best way. Better to use Lifechaulk or 4200.
