Finding Leaks (Rainwater?)

We have recently discovered a small amount of water near the holding tank thru hulls and under the sink in the head. The water does not have a foul smell so we do not think it is from the holding tank. We believe that this water is entering the boat from recent rains. We also noticed a significant amount of water in the bilge. Any suggestions on where this leak may be or how to locate this leak? Thanks, Kenneth

Leaks

Kenneth, I have been working the leaks in my 27 lately and I think by the location you mentioned it is most likely the chainplate attached to the bulkhead and is running down both sides of the bulkhead. I had this same problem although the water only showed up under the sink and in the hanging locker. Since I rebeaded the chainplates I have solved the problem on both sides. Check the other side to to see if you are getting water in the hanging locker. Also, the water can travel from the front of the boat as well and end up in these same locations, but I would start with the chainplates. Good Luck John

Chainplate Leaks

If you find leaks around your chainplates you may want to insure that the bulkhead is sound. As these boats get older there is a tendency for rot to occur in and around the chainplates. If they go it can make for a bad day at the office...

Leaks ?

I have aC 30 1988 all sumer Things are dry. In fall and spring I have water on bath counter, under sink in bath, and in some places around the main caben. I sealed every thing from windows to chain plates to stantions . and It is still damp in some places .I think around the alumanim ports and roof hatches condensation builds up on top of the hard head liner and when the boat gets rocked the water drips down and pools up . I have seen more water around the cabin when my wife and three kids and dog are sleeping abord .then when I am solo .Inthe sumer Iuse two soler vents. when the weather gets colder we turn them down.
