Finding Hull ID # on old Pearson 23

A good friend of mine has been given an abandoned Pearson 23 that's been sitting at a marina for 7 or 8 years.
He has been looking of the hull identification number on the transom, but can't seem to find it.
He hasn't been inside the cabin yet, as the hornets have made it their home.
Is he looking in the right place? Not to sure the vintage of this boat, he thinks mid or late 1970s, it has a full keel.

The Pearson (Grumman) 23 built in the 70s had a fin keel.
It might be much older. In which case it won't have a HIN number.
Look at the pics below. Any of those look familiar?

Maybe even a vintage 60's model. Not quite like any of the above pictures. Most like the third picture, except that the mast is stepped ahead of the cabin.
There is a Pearson plaque and a hull # 184 and that's about it
Any thoughts

In any case, if it was built in the 60's there is no HIN.

Pre 1972 boats didn't have HIN's

The 3rd set of drawings is a Pearson Ensign. And the plaque with #184 appears typical of the Ensign. I understand Pearson sold the rights to the name and design to the Ensign Class Association many years ago. It is a very active class with lots of racing. Hull 184 would have be made in the early 1960's. Go to ensignclass.com for more info.

Established hull ID's weren't introduced until later. Manufacturers of those old boats usually put the hull number on the mainsail. So, if you have the original mainsail for the boat, the number on it most likely is the hull number of the boat.
