Finally ordered new sails

Ordered new sails a few days ago (from SBO). Can't wait to see how they work. It will be my first attempt at loose footed main. Any hints I should know about using it?

So far, I'm impressed with the order process. I even spent some time with the designer clarifying what I was after.

The designer said raising the sail up (shortening the luff) causes no problems for sail shape or sheet angle. I only went up 10 inches however.

This is your headsail right? Did you do this to add a furler? The only effect I would imagine from shortening it is a slight loss in sail area.

Headsail, yes. I elevated it for 2 reasons. Originally it was at deck level (the furler is mounted under the deck). One to provide better sail shape due to interference with the bow pulpit. We never have had good sail shape with the old sails. Two: better forward visibility.

I should have noticed your boat. We have the same model probably ('91 30T). Our headsail starts about 12" above the deck

Yep 1989 G model (50 foot bridge clearance) worth the walk through transom).

you still need to tie in your out haul to the sails clew... Otherwise it is a flag.
I think, if it is triangular shaped, it's called a pennent
"a tapering flag on a ship, especially one flown at the masthead of a vessel in commission."

So true Will. A very big white pennant (not pennent.. your going to wake the spelling police).
I will sit here in the corner and do penance for "flag calling error".

It is possible. Remember, he still has to sail the boat and not sure if the new sails have magic to overcome the displacement/waterlength issue “HULL SPEED”.

As the second to last guy said to the other hiker, “ I don’t have to out run the bear, I just have to out run you.”

Well, run those new sails up and run with the wind while running against the tide. Just try to run on-time so you aren't running late trying to out-run the sharks that are running you and your buddy down.
Don't worry, I'm not running out of words. Nope, not likely to run afoul of that problem.
