Finally Finished New Orleans area info

Went over to take a look this morning, and sure enough the new Hwy. 90 bridge at the Rigolets is finally finished and open to traffic. 65' + clearance. Even better is that the old swing bridge has been opened up, so now Lake Ponchatrain sailors can get out of the lake headed east, without going through New Orleans, and the bridges there.

Thanks for the report. I'm assuming the Highway 11 and railroad bridge are working also? Already planning the spring trip..thanks again for keeping us updated. Are there any transient slips at Oak Harbor now?

Your heads up announcing the Rigolets closure got me headed the right way when we returned to N.O. from Apalachicola at the end of the summer. I had only heard the Rigolets Katrina damage was fixed, not that the bridge was broken and shut down again untill the new bridge was completed. Glad to hear it is open again.

At Long Last!!

So glad to hear that the Rigolets is once again open to sailboat traffic. I was headed out to the Gulf through the Rigolets a couple months ago when I was informed by several boaters that the Hwy 90 Bridge was closed and no sail boats could pass. I had checked with the Coast Guard earlier in the week and they had assured me that the route was open. I contacted them again a week later and they insisted that they had no record of the closure. Go figure! It's history. This will make it a lot easier to have a relaxing weekend sail (not motorsail) to the Gulf Coast. Since it is obvious that I didn't know who to talk to with the Coast Guard does anybody know who does track the bridge closures?

How is the West End?

Are there any transient slips in NO? We would like to sail over and eat at Landry's. Thanks for the info on HWY 90 bridge. Also can't one get info on bridges from LA Department of Transportaion?

NOLA slips

New Orleans Yacht Harbor has slips available for free. The catch is that there are no services, just slips. If you go there pick an unoccupied slip that works for your boat. Mike, on Manana near the yacht club, is kind of in charge.
