I finally figured out why my Yanmar 2GMF overheats! Before you go thinking he just found the mixing elbow plugged, look at the picture below.
About three years ago, I nicked the exterior of the 2" exhaust tube, (the white repaired area in the picture) this caused the inner lining of the tube to de-laminate and collapse; the inside of the hose is collapsed from end to end. I I guess it finally generated enough back pressure to pop off the smoke box, it was then that I noticed it.
I guess the take away is don't try and be cheap and do a quick repair: Replace it!
