Installed Alternative AC unit

housepests.jpgThis is the final product which was installed behind the galley wall today. The blue duct will come thru the wall to the right of the electric plug and can be extended back to salon area or mounted flush into galley wall, we'll see how it works out. I will also be adding a trim piece with insulated backing to fit around the unit on the inside. I would have finished today but cordless drill has apparently decided it wants to live in a dumpster.

just curious - 1. from where does it/will it suck return air? 2. where does the condensate go? 3. how loud is it? 4. to where does it dissipate the heat?

This is the third thread relating to this endeavor by myself and several others. The unit is mounted in the wall at rear of galley so return air comes directly out of cabin. The exhaust goes into the port storage locker with a duct venting it up, for now you have to raise the lid when in use, but soon will have a vent into cockpit w/ a blower fan. By removing part of the base it was easy to deal with the condesate and it is funneled into a drain tube and into the sink. It is very quiet, just a big fan. The blue duct can be extended to anywhere in the cabin we need the air.

I think I will follow in your footsteps. This appeas a rather easy solution! I will have an easier time, as I have a taller wall behind modified galley, and I have a shower sump right below where you show the AC mounted for sink and ice chest drains. Adding a connection for condensation will be easy. Wal Mart trip in my future, before they put away the little $100.00 AC units for the season...

Nice addition!

Phil, I had to remove the box housing and the front cover to make it fit through the storage openning, then reinstalled underneath. If you have dropped your countertop a couple of inches the unit should fit without altering the airducts at all. Where's that baby? Got the car running?

I have no baby yet.... Any day now though... Mom's hospital suitcase is packed....

I know I could do a traditional mount with my new galley, (lowered about 7 inches) but then I would have a window unit staring me in the face. While it is work, I sort of like the idea of adding ductwork so that only the controls are re-located to the galley wall and the rest is hidden. We will see. First thing to do is to remember to go to WalMart and buy one...

I might go do that now.
