Fiddles on shelves in main salon.

I am finding those shelves along the sides of the main salon a little frustrating. Many items I put on the shelves slide off and sometimes slide down behind the cushions. There is just that one bar to hold anything on the shelf, and it is pretty high.
I was thinking that a fiddle or some other barrier along the bottom would solve the problem. Has anyone else done that?

My thoughts exactly. One of the first things I noticed after buying the boat was that stuff slid under the bar in front of the shelves. I bought teak (ouch) to to make companionway doors to replace the hatch boards and got extra for a couple of other winter projects including making fiddles for the shelves.
