Hello people...need some help!! We have an S2 7.3 meter...the on board sail drive is shot and although we plan to rebuild it in the fall over the winter it does us no good right now. The time has finally come for us to move our boat from Milwaukee to the UP where we live. We plan to sail it here which is not the issue. The problem is this ...the angel of the transom ...we have an outboard mount ..Question 1... where to mount it? In the center? Port? Starboard? Question 2....the fiberglass wedge? We have searched and can't seem to find where to buy one...anyone have any info on that? Question 3 ...what length shaft do y'all have on outboards? The extra long shaft is hard to find...and lastly what hp engine does the best?? Our boat is 3500#

Thanks in advance...I can be emailed directly sexyangelup@gmail.com or ya can call 906 361 7245 which if ya have info on where to get the fiberglass wedge I really need that info right away in case it's something I have to order on line...in two weeks is when we will have the time off work to sail here home.

Peace out
Angel

Motor mount

I would probably get a Garelick motor mount. I had one on a Lancer 25 and it mounted through the transom without a wedge and had a plywood backing on the inside and large washers to secure it. I think you only need a wedge if you cannot properly trim the outboard within the capabilities of the mount. You could call them and ask how much of an angle it can accommodate as it isn't in their instructions. I don't think a wedge is necessary. Several 7.3's without a wedge appear if you search for photos of 7.3's.

Ditto to what BobM said.
My belief is that the wedge was required on older boats to accommodate simpler brackets and OB's. Today's brackets and OB's have a lot of tilt adjustments.
Shaft length depends on where you are sailing and if your going to see larger waves. Also consider the freeboard at the transom. A boat with more freeboard will benefit from a longer shaft so the head of the OB is higher and in reach.

I am in milwaukee I have an out board mount I used on my coronado 25 . Not sure if it will work , but I would be willing to pare with it for a small price . For a 4000 pound boat 8 hp is more than enough . If you are in the market for a used outboard I have good things about 'Mack's' it's on Layton and kinnykinic . Not sure if I spelled right . I

Ok you can call or text me at 414...-..... I attempted to e mail you , but I don't think it went through . I should be off work around 5 . I will look for the mount tonight , not sure how long it will take to find this mount . I looked at the 7.3 on line looks like it has a fairly vertical stern , so I don't think you will need a wedge .
