My 2001 Hunter 290 has a 3 foot long set of spider cracks along the Starborard toerail and a couple of divits/cracks in the forward deck walkway. I got a quote from the a local marine repair business and it was 24 hours of labor @ $68.00 per hour, with materials the total was $1,965. My FIRST QUESTION is this too much or is it in the general ball park.  Since this is a new boat, and under warrenty, I sent the quote and a number of pictures to my dealer to get approval for the work. Hunter's reply was they would only cover 10 hours at $48 per hour. SECOND QUESTION Is this time and Labor chare resonable or is Hunter screwing me?  I have attached one of the pictures of the spider cracks

Hunter is not correct

They are doing what any prudent company would do; try to get out of it for as little as possible. Why not go back to your Dealer and have them take care of it. Let the dealer fight over price with the local yard you are at.

Estimate?????

How can Hunter estimate the work from a photo. I just had spider cracks fixed. They were forward of the centerboard and it cost me about $1000. The cracks in your photo need to chased out, to find the depth then repaired with new glass, and then they need to gel coat the area. It looks like alot of work to me. One thing I learned with my repair is to find the cause of the stress cracks. If you do not find the cause you will be fixing the cracks for ever......DaveSimply MagicOlympia, WA

The boat is too new to be showing ANY gelcoat or fibreglass problems, even if they are merely cosmetic (which many are till they start admitting water). There is NO excuse for this but poor gelcoat or layup, and that is a factory problem, not yours.I would have the dealer actually come to you and LOOK at the boat. In a way you can't blame the factory for wanting to not cover work they did not see done. See that they see it, and then see that they see it done.JC 2
