i have a fiberglass "hiking stick" attached to the tiller on my oday 20. the fiberglass causes areas which touch my skin to become scratchy. does anyone have an idea for covering the hiking stick besides using electrical tape?

I had the same problem with my 16' HobieCat. I replaced the fiberglass one with a telescoping aluminum one and I am much happier with that. Before I replaced it, I tried coating it with some rubber-like-paint-on tool handle coating. That worked for a while but it would scrape off eventually. But it was better than having the nasty itch. sPk

Tennis racket tape
On the aluminum hiking stick on my Laser I've used the blue tape used to wrap the handle on tennis rackets for better grip. It's sold at most sporting goods stores. It feels nice and it's non-slip. It handles moisture pretty well, but it's not super durable. Cork or synthetic cork bicycle handlebar tape would probably work, too.
