Fiberglass Dink wanted...

Hi all, Am looking for a 7 to 8 foot fiberglass dink and having a hard time tracking one down. I've run across a 9' 4 " hard dink carried in several of the catalogues, which is bigger than I'd like, and I'm not all that keen on these Walker dinks that are out there. Anyone else making fiberglass dinks these days in the 7 to 8 foot range?Or any Any suggestions on the best place to maybe locate a used one in the NY tri-state area? Thanks, Jim

Fatty Knees

Take a look at the Fatty Knees 8' fiberglass dinghy -- made by Edey & Duff in New England -- very nice, very well constructed, rows well and has a sailing kit. I have an older one and am very happy with it.

Jim; The Fatty Knees dinks are pretty good, but be aware they are not light and they can't be towed unless you SEAL the daggerboard trunk very tight! You have to get them aboard somehow. I made a collapsable boom from a piece of dowel and some kitchen plumbing pipes that allows me to hoist mine onto my fordeck with a block and tackle, and they have to be stored somehow. I didn't realize how much hassle they are until I got one. (I don't use it for a regular dink. For that I use an inflatable)Larry W.

Happy With My Boatex

Eight ft., with sail kit. Rows great, sails well and tracks true behind the mother ship. They are made in Ontario, so your American dollar is worth 40% more. Mine is a fake lapstrake design. They also make a larger version with a small jib in the sail plan. Mine weighs 65 lbs and has a large keelson and a fairly wide floor for stability.
