Ferrites With A Raymarine ST60+ Depth Finder

First; please excuse my ignorance. I installed my Raymarine DF. I used an Airmar hockey puck style transducer. The display unit is wired to its' own circuit breaker and currently is not hooked up to SeaTalk. The DF display sits between the display for the Raymarine X5 Auto Pilot and the TackTick wind instrument.

Is it neccessary to use ferrites at the display? I'm confused because the instructions state "If you are going to connect a Depth transducer to a ST60+ Depth instrument, fit suppression ferrites near the instrument end of the SeaTalk and transducer cables...". The part that confuses me is "If you are going to connect a Depth transducer to a ST60+ Depth instrument....". What else would you connect it to to get the depth?

Regardless, for those who have the same instrument are ferrites required? I have not used them and so far the performance doesn't seem to be affected.

Ferries are not necessarily required, however they would help to suppress some potential types of interference. They don't cost much anyway. The instructions to place them near the instrument are presumably there to imply that the protection provided is for the eventuality of any interference of other nearby instrumentation

You can also use the ST60 depth in another area of your boat as a repeater. In that case, you do not have to connect a transducer directly to the second ST60 depth instrument. As long as you have a Seatalk bus connected to it, it will repeat depth information.

I have done that type of double connection. Via Seatalk, I bridged the ST60 to a leftoverST40 Bidata at the nav station. It acts as a slave and reads speed and depth, with the depth alarm set in the cabin it's easy to monitor if anchored and one starts to drag. It works flawlessly.
