Fender boards

Our jetty systems over here use all external bollards so fendering is difficult without fender boards. Am thinking of making one that is in two sections that join together to make a reasonable length. The reason is so that it can be taken apart for storage in the port side cokpit locker. Anyone made something like this? Was thinking of aluminium or treated pine!! regards

Mark, uh,,,,,I am haveing problems figureing out exactly what you mean. If I have it correct, then you are makeing/fabricateing a Dock Fender that runs a good section of the Hull? If so, then talk to an Upholstery shop. We made one for a Ericson 36' here last year. Stowage was the issue, so we made it in 4 parts that were connected with Small Shackles and Nylon Straps. The owner approached us again and asked us to make it 'deeper', that is to say, more coverage from Waterline to Deck. I had put Eyelets/Grommets on the 6 sides of each Fender so that was easily done. Cost was about $300 USD for the first set,1 side only,,and the deeper add-on was about $100. Mind you this was a Custom job,,so the price is not reflective of what you or any others may encounter. Is just a bit of input for you. Johnny

Mark, I got your picture. I am not sure what you mean by bollards which I am ignorant of the term but a description of what you are talking about and/or a diagram. You can send this to me at my email. What you are describing are simply fender boards that are hung off the sides to fend the boat off. I got some myself. I would use treated lumber and carpet it alot. You may have to nail two together to make one,.. I am not sure how long but two to three should be fine. crazy dave

Bollards

Hello Dave and all. What I mean is that up and down each side of the jetties ( about 3-4 foot apart) are 6" X 3" peices of timber that extend about three foot above the jetty and extend about 4 foot below set vertical. So they are on the outside edge of the jetty so fendering without fender boards is hard cos you have to keep the yacht without any forward or aft movement. With the boards of course between the fenders and the "bollards" it gets around this problem. 28 c here this morning but not a ripple on the water. Sailing this arvo I hope! Regards
