Having spent the last decade pulling fenders back on to the deck at departure, only to have them roll overboard while heeling, in rougher water, etc, I thought it might be time to invest in a fender basket. Polyform and Taylor make the two common models. I'm looking to mount a two-fender basket on one stanchion. The full detail would include some Fenda-Fix or similar device to make attachment of the fenders easy. Fenda-Fix claims you can hang the fenders from the lifelines; we've struggled in past years when we quickly had to move the fenders to the other side of the boat and couldn't readily untie our knots. Looking for thoughts and advice. Paul

Clove hitch them

Just clove hitch them to the life lines. If you want to untie them quickly make the last wrap a loop so that you can just tug and release.

We installed clips at the ends of the fender lines

and just easily clip them to the lower lifelines close to the stanchions. When we leave, we flip them up and over the top lifelines. They rest against the stanchions and rarely go anywhere. If they do, they're still connected to the boat, and we just go flip them up again. It avoids tying things, which makes it easier for people who don't know a knot from a not to help out. Plus, as a singlehander, it's just easier. Clarification on the clips: metal, either spring loaded or double jaws, not plastic, not expensive.

I just clove-hitch mine

to the toe rail and flip 'em on deck when I leave the dock. They rest up against the stanchion and hardly ever move; I never tie to the lifelines cause as the boat moves against the dock or another boat in a raftup, the fenders can put a lot of strain on the lifelines.

Hadn't thought of that

Those little clips are a good idea. Last year a guy and his wife came up all huffy and told me somebody stole their fenders and my thought was "that's odd, learn to tie a knot and stop that darn thief Gravity".

Powerboats?

Jeesh, I apparently stepped where no sailor should. Mea culpa. At least I wasn't asking about one of those power steering knobs..... Paul

my boat

My boat had those fender mounts on it when i bought it from the PO. They are handy and keeping the fenders out of the way but do take up a lot of real estate on valuable stern rail space. My current slip doesn't have much room between the boat and the dock so I installed some soft rubber rub rails and now I do not even use fenders. I ended up taking off the fender mounts and they now just sit in my garage. If you are really interested in double fender mounts we can make a deal, such as, oh, shipping cost only. I have 2 of the double mounts.
