Any experience with J-Props v. Max-Props? J's seem to have external adjustment for about the same $$ as Max standard. 1985 Pearson 34 w/Yanmar 3GMF 21 hp.

Max Prop is recommended

Shorty, I have done some research on feathering props and find the Max Prop to be highly used and recommended by the racing and cruising crowd here in So. Calif. They are a little pricey, but reportedly, have outstanding characteristics for light air use and in forward and reverse. No loss of speed and ability to move through heavy seas. I have mine ordered and will have it on the boat by mid-January. John Richard s/v Jack's Place

Shorty, You might want to search the archives of this site and others as this is a thread that seems to pop up with great regularity. Some months ago I began to look at feathering props for our Beneteau 321. When all the evidence was in, we decided that the benefits did not justify the cost for us. If you are a racer, you may find the expense worth while. Be aware that vibration is probably the common complaint from feathering props on these boards. Good luck! Why not a quality folder?

I have a Seahawk Slipstream stainless folder that performs every bit as good as any fixed prop. The cost is under $1,000.00 and it's totally user maintainable. They are sold by H&H Propeller (link below) and can be ordered for both shaft and saildrives. They're offering Feb boat show prices now. You can see the Slipstream at the related link. H&H Propeller's website is: www.handhprop.com I have mine on a Nonsuch 30 Classic with saildrive. Cheers, Bob

Love my Max

Don't have any experience with other folding/feathering props. But, I can tell you that the Max prop that came on my B400 is sweet. Gains me almost a full knot of speed when feathered and backs straight. Doesn't seem to vibrate (as long as the engine is running well).
