The Lord Nelson

We have a 2001 260. By the end of the second season, both faucets were either leaking and/or not pumping. HUNTER refused to warranty them, so we bought one new one last year. It lasted less than three months. Again HUNTER refuses any responsibility. The faucets are made in Taiwan. Can they be re-built to make them better than new or can someone suggest more realiable replacements? Thanks!!!

New Faucets

I had the same problem (as most do, I believe). I think the factory units are too cheap to rebuild, even if you wanted to. I replaced mine with Fynspray model WS-63 available at West Marine for about $60. It works fine - its been 2 years now on one and a year on the other. The only problem I found is that they don't hold the suction as well as the old ones - you have to pump ~5 times before any water comes out. Practical Sailor also rated a "Whale" model pretty high, but I'd have to go back to find out which one.

Changed out to Whale

Yes the OEM were horrible. We replaced parts, o-rings and always had problems with leaking. We replaced them with the Whale Flipper and are satisfied. They were about $75 each at WM. They hold their prime for months. They fit over the existing cuts in the counter top. The higher angle of the faucet was important at the galley sink.

Bite the bullet

We threw ours away some months ago for these reasons. Installed a small pressure pump up next to the fresh water tank, replaced the faucets with little taps, wired it in and presto. Fresh running water. Mind you it is amazing just how much water you go thru with an electric pump.

Faucet fix

Hunter replaced mine during the first year warrenty period with no problem. After that, the new ones failed. The check valves deteriorate so I placed an in-line filter and new in-line check valve in the feed line and have had no problems since then. The source of the equipment is: http://www.mcmaster.com/ Great company, fast delivery and it solved my faucet problems for two years now. Buy the stuff to match the I.D. of your feed lines. Pat

Old pumps

I still have the original pumps in my 1996 H26. They usually prime after several pumps but no longer hold the prime for long. If I have a hard time priming them (typically in the spring) due to a lot of air in the line, I hold my finger lightly over the faucet outlet. Each time I pump, the pump pushes the air past my finger but the air cannot get sucked back in. It quickly pumps all the air out of the lines. It isn't elegant but it is free.
