Hello again, has anyone replaced the faucet /pump for small sink in h23, 1989 ? any advice would be appreciated ,if I can fix this it will keep me from buying a new hunter 240.Thanks for the imput, MIke
I bought my '86 H23 almost a year ago and the previous owner had replaced the sink pump with an battery powered pump. It is just a small pumo that goes in line between the tank and the faucet. It works fine but it can tend to allow you touse more water than you would other wise. i a m planning on adding a larger tank (20-30 gallons) and a cockpit shower using a deck wash pump and a recessed transom shower kit I recently purchased. The extra weight when full woill not help the performance, but the ballast should help the stability (she is a bit tender when the blow gets stinky). Good luck and I hope your able to keep your 23...jt
Replacing the pump was one of the 1st things I had to do when we got the boat. The stock pump (?) didn't work and probably hadn't in years. I got the Rocker Pump by Fynspray at West Marine. It has a short pump body which is important as there's not much room under the galley box. You will need to enlarge the through hole. The pump really works well and still allows the box to stow properly.
The pump didn't work either when I bought my 88 H23. The boat also listed noticeably to port. So I emptied the 5 gal water tank and now stow water in portable 2.5 gal containers under the settees in the cabin. The boat doesn't list any more and it isn't down by the stern as much either. Never having had a pump, I don't miss it.PeterS/V Raven
... I did the same thing! ;o) My 88 H23 was missing any kind of water tank, and the pump for the sink was in several pieces. Rather than fork over the $$, we keep a 5-Gallon bladder bag on board, and haven't had any problems. You're right- It maked great ballast, and can be put where you need it!--Jon BastienH23 '2 Sheets to the Wind'H25 'Adagio'
My galley slave grinned like she was crazy when I replaced the piston pump with an electric one. Check pg 234 2000 West Marine, "Galley Pump & Faucet Kit". Includes switch, Pump, and Faucet. I had to make an aluminum plate fo fit it onto the sink, no big deal. Best $40 I ever spent on the boat.Keith Smoot
If you have balance problems, try this. Move your battery into the middle underbunk storage on the starboard side of the boat. Move the water tank into the middle underbunk storage on the port side. Install the electric water pump I mentioned earlier. With the outboard on the port side and your six gallon gas tank in the fuel locker to starboard, the boat should be nicely balanced fore and aft as well as port and starboard.
...even though I fully agree that the final balancing of the boat does occur dynamically, i.e. while under way. That's why God made tiller extensions and hiking pants. However, if the boat is statically balanced, it makes the final "tweaking" on the water that much easier.Peter "I still have my hiking pants"S/V Raven
I purchased a 260 last year and found the two pumps on it worthless. Hunter sent me two more--also wouldn't pump. I removed the plumbing from the head (why does Hunter put TWO sinks in a 26-foot boat?) and installed a small in-line electric pump for the galley sink. This was a teriffic improvement, and these boats should come this way.
Thank you all for the as usual great advice , on the pump, one of the things I enjoy most about sailing is not wearing pants, hiking, high water or otherwise, thought this was a universal thing, is it just regional ?MIke
Try hiking out hard all afternoon on a small planing dinghy without hiking pants (or no pants at all!) and you will begin to understand their value. The padding and battens make that kind of life a lot more bearable. They also help if you have to clamber out onto the side deck of your small keelboat in a hurry to keep it balanced in a gust, just in case you happen to plant your rear on a winch or a cleat by mistake in the rush. Imagine how it would feel to land on a cam cleat with no pants on...Ouch!!PeterS/V Raven
