What's the fastest you've gone in your C30? Just curious; we did 5.7 knots the other day, which is our fastest so far...

Hull speed is 6.7 kts. That is as fast as you can go without help of current.

Is that SOG or the knotmeter? My knotmeter was telling me over 6knts a couple of weeks ago during a good wind day (13knts gusting to 20) but the SOG from the GPS was in the high 5 range.

...6.4knts SOG...what's that about 7.5mph?...seemed faster than that at the time.

Ha how true. It seems like a big difference between 4 and 6 knots. It must be the heeling effect.

I crew a 1985 Catalina 30 out of Ventura that I found for my buddy as a live a board. We take "His house" sailing!

For us, seeing 6 plus on the knot meter is normal going to wind. I back these readings with my GPS. We have seen the knot meter hit 7.4 sliding down a wave on a broad reach. The admirable, my wife, has a squeal meter that goes off at 15 degrees so I ease off the main and run the traveler down hill.

Bottom line is that any forward speed is good and being able to trim for "no hands sailing" is the best. We aim for comfort sailing.
