I was considering moving the Ram mic from the side of the helm station where it squawks at anyone sitting to the side, to the NavPod besdie the chartplotter. Am I correct in thinking I could predrill a tap hole and screw a mic clip onto the face of the NavPod?

Scott..

I would through bolt it rather than screw or tap it. If you've ever cut into the face of a NavPod you'd notice what can only be described as a" foamish" like core, similar to foam core PVC pipe, between two hard layers of plastic. Screws tends to strip in this stuff and the two skins are thin enough to not get a good bite. Some 10-24 or 10-32 machine screws would work well. Those little mic clips seem to get more abuse in the cockpit than they do in the cabin..

More longterm security

if you do the tapping in a piece of metal (aluminum?) located inside the Navpod. That way the screws have something to really grip on. The Navpod becomes the meat in a metal sandwich :)

thanks guys

I've never seen inside these, so had no idea of what they're made of or what would hold. I'm assuming what you're saying is nuts and washers inside or a piece of metal. What is the driver to take these apart. I've noticed they are a torx type screw with a round button in the middle?

If you don't..

If you don't have the special hollow point allen wrench, with any of the stuff Hunter gave you with the boat, order one from NavPod or you won't be able to get it apart. Actually, make that order two and keep one in a safe place as back up...

thanks

I don't remember seeing it in the stuff left on the boat, but I'll have a closer look this weekend.

Scott-

Those heads are known as security heads- alot of people use them to put their tags on cars and trailers, makes the tags hard to steal. You can get the complete set of those bits at almost any auto parts store. I think I paid about seven dollars. cup

use a small flathead!

My Hunter dealer walked off with the security wrenches for my Navpod, but I've found that a small flat head fits in just fine for unscrewing-so much for security!

I took one look at those screws and matched them up with

regular phillips head screws. I think the security screws ended up in the garbage. When I want to get into my stuff I don't like having to use a silly, slow wrench. A cordless drill is my 'wrench'.
