Hello to all.Does
anyone have a Farymann Diesel in there Vega? Or know where to get
parts? I have an 18W in mine, runs fine, starts every time, but not
charging. The PO connected the wires wrong on the voltage regulator /
rectifier and, of course, no charging. Looking for a voltage regulator /
rectifier. Been searching the world wide web and no luck. Found some universal ones, has anyone had any luck with these? I have a three phase permanent magnet stator and rotor system. Thanks to all for any help,Jim.Valkyrie in Florida

Jim, this might sound dumb but have you contacted Farymann North America? I see there office is in Orland FL. 864 627 8143. I seem to recall that I heard somewhere that VW was the manufacturer for Farymann but I may be wrong. Walt

This is a possible cause. If you have an alternator and the
charging light is burned out the alternator may not charge Many
alternators need about five volts to excite it and the charging
light drops the 12 volts to 5 volts. this is not more than a
possibility but maybe?? Doug

I have checked with Farymann North America in Orlando and they pretty much brushed me off. Said that Farymann doesn't make those parts and I would have to go OEM or the installer of the charging system. They haven't replied back to me after asking for further assistance. My regulator was wired up incorrectly as I found during trouble shooting. My light used to stay on all the time until it burned out, as the previous informed me. When engine was being installed the boat changed owners, and completion of installation also changed mechanics. Thanks to all,Jim.

Customer service really sucks at times. When I needed Yanmar parts I found them difficult to obtain. One place that I used t get them from was great. Their distribution region changed and I had to get them from another region and they sucked. Have you tried
emailing Germany? There address is
www.farymann.de and I did notice that there was at least one seller for farymann parts on eBay.      Walt

I have often taken an alternator and regulator to an Alternator
repair shop. For a reasonable fee or even free the will put it on a
Machine and check it out and diagnse the problem. Sometimes and
especially if it has been hooked up wrong a diode in the altornator
may be burned out and can be relaced cheapley. Usually the parts are
generic. I have saved n myself many a headache this way. There
aren't a lot of these shops around any more but some searching will
turn up one. Often Tractor repair shops have someone who can do
this, Check the yellow phone pages. Doug

Thanks Doug.Unfortunately I have a fixed stator in the bell housing like a motorcycle. Wish it was that easy. I have narrowed down to the regulator and need to replace it with a new one.Jim. Alternators and regulators are not engine specific with the exception of the mount. Take your alternator to a good automotive alternator shop. There is at least one in every city.
