I'm planning an adventure sail with my C-22 for Spring '02 and I'd like to check-in with sailors who have been there before. The plan is to pick a good weather window in Mar or April, charge out under the GG Bridge and circumnavigate the Farallones Islands. I've been sailing the SF Bay Area a bit this year and the boat's pretty well equipt and in good shape. What do you guys think? Merry Christmas. (I also posted this under "Short Ocean Passages" by mistake.)

Extended sailing

Having spent a month or two of continuaous single-handed sailing the Chesapeake Bay last summer in my Catalina 22, I can say that the boat responds well to an assortment of foul weather, wind,

Take your Bible

Hi Tom, I,ve been there and done that in my 22 MKll fixed fin......I think I can sum it up in one short sentence..... Me and the Lord got to know each other real good on that trip.. The Farallone Islands are not a good place to play in a small boat..I did the Singlehanded race out around the islands. There are some big boat eating rocks out there and the current moves faster than the river on an ebb tide... Normally the current runs down the coast at about 5 to 6 knots...as it rounds the islands, which are just mountain tops jutting out of the water, the current must be doing 8 to 10 knots.. I chose the wrong line and as I got closer to the islands I had to tack my brains out to get north of the rocks. If your set on doing it, and is a 10 hour trip easy, give me a shout and I'll double up with you and we'll take both boats.... I've traveled most of the coastal area around the Gate so if I can help, drop me a line or give me a call...I live over in Lodi..... Randy windward@softcom.net 209-365-1432

Pick your day

I lived and worked out of Pillar Point and SSF for Shoreline Diesel. Live in Central Oregon now. My advise would be to pick your day carefully, it can get real nasty out there. I'm thinking of buying a cat. 22 to play in the San Juan Islands, do you like yours, feel free to E-mail me at SAML6@prodigy.net.
