Casco to Frenchman

Not many summers ago--though it seems longer--I managed to steal away for a few weeks and sailed Miranda Moon (H-30) down east for the bulk of that time. The trip consisted of day trips from port to port; Casco to Boothbay and Penobscot and down the reach to Blue Hill and Frenchman. The first half was spend with my first mate aboard and traveling with a flotilla (Kennebec R. Power Squadron); when we returned to Penobscot Bay, I had the boat and another week or so to myself. Applaud the CIRCUMNAVIGATION!!

We have circumnavigated Fishers Island!! My next challenge will be Long Island!! We put about 300 miles on our 33 in a good season but we rarely get more than 10 - 15 miles from home. it's hard to compare these adventures with those of the world travelers but they are, none the less FUN! Why "George" for your AutoHelm?

I forgot to mention this in my first reply but the only place I have ever heard of auto referred to as "George" was onboard the fast attack submarine NARWHAL. Our "George" had the bad habit of occasionally heading us for the bottom if we let him control depth, but "George" always steered a straight course with no "snake wake". Once in a great while I still catch myself announcing "George has the load" when I shift our 33's helm to auto. I am trying to stop referring to other vessels as "targets" too. Old habits..... Ft. Lauderdale to St. Thomas

In 1989 I sailed/motored my 1979 30 ft. Hunter from Ft. Lauderdale to Bimini and island-hoped down to Georgetown, Exuma. From Exuma Island I deadheaded East 650 miles out to sea and then headed due south to St. Thomas. One item that would have made the trip "Dryer" would have been a dodger. I have since added a hardtop dodger and have repowered with a 2-cylinder freshwater cooled Yanmar. Two years later, I sailed back to Ft. Lauderdale and trucked the boat to the San Juan Islands. I still own my Hunter and cruise the Puget Sound and San Juan Islands.
