Bermuda

We already have a plan to sail to Bermuda in 4 years. We are spending 5 yrs preparing ourselves and our 33 Pearson. (We started planning the day we bought the boat last year) I've already told the boss that with or without pay, I'm taking a month for the trip. If I had 3 months now, I'd also try one or more of the warm places between the Chesapeake bay and Bermuda, but without a chart, I'm not sure where that would be. Another place I'd like to go is the Azores. That might be a 3 month trip!

Cape Horn

I've heard that more people have been to the summit of everest in a season than have singlehanded cape horn ever. Cape Horn is on my to do before I die list. Everest is NOT, however anapurna or K-2 might be.

Trans Pac

It woukd have to be a Trans Pac for me. I have always wanted to see if I could make it to Hawaii from the West Coast. I have heard 15+ days to get there. But to crew on a boat to Hawaii, and of course cruise around the islands for a bit of time, has always been a dream of mine.

pre retirement trip

that would be a shake down cruise to make sure we are well prepared for world circumvention.lets start with a week just to leasurely stroll to grand bahama island then around the various cays seeking out those giligans island lagoons then back home to my favorite do it yourself marina for final prep for around the world..........and after 90 days,work........whats that?

Just curious, why not Florida?

With all the folks heading "South" for the winter, doesn't anyone know of a GREAT area in Florida to spend the cold season?

carisea

not florida

Florida is great for power boating and fishing it is mediocre as a sailing area. Going out in the ocean is fine but then you must enter into inlets to the ICW which can be tricky. The water is "black" in the ICW until you go very far south. And if their is room to anchor in the ICW the gnats and mosquitos are horrendous. The Bahamas ,Keys, or Caribbean are the best.

SPACE CASE

Since the bonus is incredibly large and actually far beyond my actual worth as an employee, I've decided to take them up on spending a week aboard the most awesome ship in existence! The International Space Station. Many weeks of preparation and training and then a culmination in the most incredible cruise a person could ever achieve in this lifetime. Sign me up, I'll leave that sailboat at anchor until I return!

2 Capes

Charter from Peru, down to Cape Horn, east to Cape of Good Hope, then north up the red sea for a single handed rounding of both capes in a single non-stop voyage.

Ireland

Several years ago we day charted a 31' Beneteau out of Kinsale, Ireland. I would like to circumnavigate the Emerald Isle. I would like to sail in Lough Swilly and Dock at Rathmullen, the home of my grandparents and current home to several cousins. I would love to stop in Killibegs and eat fresh North Atlantic Salmon (it is really white not pink). You have to spend a week or two in the West of Ireland at places like Galway, Dingle Town, the Blaskert Islands, explore County Clare. I may even learn to speak Irish. Kinsale is so beautiful. I will need to make sure that I have plenty of line for the huge tide swings, it's tough sleeping off a night at the pub when your boat is dry a leaning on the gunwale.

Cape Breton bound

Sailing amongst the 365 islands of mahone bay, nova scotia is hard to beat. But if I had 3 months i'd cruise our 1992 catlalina 25 up the coast to Cape Breton island and then take the lock through to the Brador lakes. They are salt water lakes located in the middle of Cape Breton. One could get lost in the paradise of bay and islands which are mostly uninhabited and easily accessible.

Maybe try the EAST coast of Florida

Yeah that's it... the east coast! Easy access to the Bahamas and the Keys! Lots of competitive marinas and way more places to eat along the water. West coast is all mosquitoes and mangroves. Average water depth is 4 inches. The sailing season is only 23 hours long (12 hours in March and the rest during a hurricane) The weather is hotter here... I mean there... and everything mildews as soon as you open the door. Yeah... it really sucks over here... I mean over there. Hmmm and it's FULL. I read somewhere that they aren't allowing any more residents. ;)

Florida Gulf - on itinerary, not to stay

My first reaction was to start at S. Alabama and sail a chartered boat along florida coast to Virgin Islands. (Heard it's a great first bareboat cruise) But maybe since it's unlimited money, I'd fly to the VI and charter several boats, to try out different ones. Then since money is unlimited, I'd buy one of them to take home as a souvenier, sailing it up flrida gulf coast to Tom Tenbigbee up to Ohio river & over to Cincinnati.

Amalfi Coast - Italy

The Caribbean is fine and all, but it doesn't hold a candle (culture, cuisine, and in my opionion natural beauty) to the Amalfi coast area. Located south of Naples -- amazing place. See the photo link. -h. hey

Cruising the Great Lakes!

I'd leave on my boat and not come back 'til I've sailed all five Great Lakes. What a vacation that would be!
