up until the last couple of weeks the depth finder has been working perfectly. Now I get readings for 150 to 250 ft deep water when I know I am in 20 ft depth. About half the time the readings are correct. I am not getting any false shallow readings, only false deep readings. Should I try to clean the thru hull transducer first, or check for corrosion on the wiring connections? Scott

Check transducer.

Take a quick jump in the water with a scrub brush and scrub the transducer. Next spring, or next time it's out of the water, buy some transducer paint and paint the transducer. It costs about $5 for 4 oz, but it lasts forever. And it saves a lot of aggrevation.
