Fair price?

Thinking about getting out of sailing (after almost 50 years). I may post more on the reasons why at a later time, but want an opinion on a fair selling price for my boat. It is a 1980 Hunter 30, some details:
Sails: Main from Airforce, good to very good condition. 110 Lapper good condition, 150 Genoa good condition, storm jib like new.
Standing rigging: all new rigging and masthead sheaves. New lights, wiring in mast.
Running rigging: new main sheet and blocks, new jib halyard. Main halyard fair.
New bottom paint.
Engine: Original Yanmar 2qm15. Currently runs just fine, BUT, it is the original 35 year old, raw water cooled engine. first 20 years in fresh water (Great Lakes), last 15 in salt. Motor mounts need replaced. I recently replaced the cutless bearing, but noted that the prop shaft needs replacement.
Cabin: Teak and holly sole has some stains, fair condition. Seat cushions in good condition, pressurized water and head work, but water heater has been removed. Berthed in San diego. Asking $7,500. Any opinions are appreciated. Thanks.

if you think that is a fair price for you to accept then the only thing that remains is to find someone who is realistic and understands the shortcomings and willing to hand you the money but personally at that price i would publish it at a thousand more and be prepared to drop to 10% on negotiations...that way they feel they did their bargaining and you got your price ...but you are the one that knows the boat best and you may be willing to take $6500.00 as far as fair that is something to behold in the view of the sellar and the buyer ...i could on and on about this but you get the picture and yes that is a fair price from where i am sitting

I agree with Woodster, you are going to get a low-ball offer from everyone, so putting it up a little and then letting them dicker it down will make it seem like a deal. If you overprice it, folks may be turned off; if you under price it, they may think there is something wrong with it, which doesn't seem like the case here.

It's a shame these boats don't fetch more money. I have to admit, if it needs motor mounts, shaft and water heater, be prepared to get some low ball offers. You don't mention if it has AC, autopilot, bimini etc. No furler too. I would start around $8000 but be willing to take $6000.

Sounds like a fair price to me but do not know the California market. Check for similar boats in the area. You indicate very good sails, a good running engine (forget about how old it may be) , new rigging and would assume a structurally sound hull and you have covered the most expensive items that influence the price of a sailboat based on condition. Give a good cleaning and improve some cosmetics as appearance is what will first draw a buyer.

She looks great from the outside. The deeper draft might be a bigger seller in CA than on the west coast of FL. Check what other similar boats have sold for. Not necessarily the asking price. You can always come down, but, as dkeagle said, you don't want to scare off potential buyers with a too high asking price. If you get a chance, could you post some interior pics. I'm always curious as to changes that have been made by Hunter and owners of different year h30s.
