So much for my planning skills. Got everything ready, checked tides, checked weather, packed up the boat, drove 30 miles with 2 cars to the marina, dropped off a car, drove 7 miles to the boat launch at west end – and it was closed. From the looks of it there are no plans on reopening the launch anytime soon. Plan B, stopped at a nearby marina and asked the first guy I saw if there were any hoist services around, sure but none open on sunday. A few phone calls later and he located a private ramp much closer to my marina that would handle my boat. However by then the rain clouds got nasty and we had to abort. The new boat ramp is perfect, wish I knew about it years ago.
Ironically, (I suppose this is irony), had I been able to launch at the first ramp we would have been caught in a squall that popped up 15 minutes later from an otherwise innocuous looking little puff ball of a cloud. It and its buddies produced strong gusts, heavy rain and dime sized hail.
So who is the patron saint of sailors?
