On my Universal M25, 1983 Catalina 30, I took apart my Facet fuel pump and cleaned the screen inside for the first time. I see a small dime size tapered magnet at the bottom. Is this there just to catch any metal dirt? Does it make a difference how it is installed? I assume it is big side down and in the center.I do not want to make a mistake and damage the pump. I also intend to repipe and run the fuel from the tank thru my Dahl filter BEFORE the Facet pump. Any help would be appreciated.

Just Removed Mine
Just bench-tested mine (had some fuel problems: turns out the pump is just fine). In my '87 C30, it's primary filter, Facet pump, then on to the engine secondary filter. My Facet has the nylon cup-shaped screen, but it was nearly perfectly clean upon inspection.

Thanks for the advise on the Facet pump. I also Googled Facet and found next to nothing. My screen was quite dirty. I have also wire brushed, sanded, primed, and painted the outside as it has considerable corrosion. I intend to replace all the hoses and my two other filters while I'm at it. Thank you again, John
