Facet electric fuel pumps 12 VDC ?????

some where i read that the AB YC/Coast Guard requirements for an electric fuel pump has to have a check valve in it or the fuel line coming from the tank....

i also have found that not all pumps are push/pull .....

so now i am wondering what part number of Facet pump and whether to put it
after the tank and before the filter ......

also will the manual pump pull fuel through the electric in the event the electric pump is not powered up (Yanmar 2gm20f)...

option 1....fuel tank - electric pump - filter - manual pump

potion 2....fuel tank - filter - electric pump - manual pump

i do like the little cube pumps but i also like the cylinder style but they are about twice the price...

the reason I want the electric pump is for priming and bleeding ....

I believe the preferred way, and the way racor recommends, is to put the filter before the pump.

+1 for installing filter between tank and pump.

I installed a racor and am sure I simply followed the instructions from racor. Different engine, same principal to filter crud before it hits the pump.

I have an inline fuel shutoff coming out of tank, but I suspect it's not working and needs replacing. Up until now it has been good for peace of mind. :)

The facet pump has a coarse screen filter about 70 micron in it but tank crud will quickly clog it up. Racor requires the filter to be mounted on the suction side of the pump so it has to be Tank - Filter - Pump.
Stu posted the part number of the facet but if you go to a NAPA store or the NAPA website they have them. Do a search and see if you can find Stu's post. I bought one last year but part number is on the boat.

Definitely tank Racor pump Engine. Why? 'Cuz the little pumps have little filters in the bottom and you want the Racor to filter the fuel, not the pump. And if the pump doesn't have a filter, that only makes it worse.

For others reading the post the name of the Facet pump on the NAPA website is "Balkamp." It still says Facet on the pump but to search the website you need to use what I guess is the current parent company name of Balkamp.

I installed

I installed a " T " and a couple of ball shut off valves in front of the electric pump. That way, with a small toggle switch, most of the time, I leave the pump shut off and isolated. But can very quickly put it into action should I need to bleed or prime the system.

Re: Is that

yes it is Phil.....according to the directions you are supposed to mount it as to where the inlet and outlet are vertical...inlet on bottom and outlet on top....and it is coast guard approved.......

Thats a new one

Never heard of a pump that was both gas and diesel. Guess I'm just getting too old.

my guess is that they have created seals and gaskets that can handle both fuels...sorta like the multi-fuel trucks we had in the army

woody, not quite. Different pumps have the ability or no ability to suck from below their levels. All pumps, when primed properly either push or pull or both. The West Marine Advisors have a good writeup on how different pumps work. Your's is a common misunderstanding. Pumps do "work", they move (usually) a liquid.
