My 1992 Catalina 30 has wood trim strips (eyebrows) running below the handrails on either side of the exterior cabin top.

While they are a pain to Cetol and maintain, when done right, they do add to the classic appearance of the boat and I'm thinking of just removing them.

Do they serve any purpose besides decoration?
Has anyone else removed them (I'm sure that they have) and if so what are the pros and cons?

Thanks John G.

No pros & cons, your boat your choice. Many of our members have removed them. Some have re-gelcoated the holes, others have simply installed finish washers and small screws, some have put on stick on stripes. I've left mine, and have variously had them plain, cetoled, and have now gone back to plain wood which will gray out with time.

I removed mine after the forward screws loosened enough to allow the sheets to get under and snap the trim. I just put some sealer in the holes and eventually will epoxy and paint. I don't miss them at all.
