Extra Wire "AFT "

I Have An Extra Wire Beside My Aft Stay on 23 ft O'Day..Smaller than the aft stay and it has a small pulley at the end... Any idea what it is for????

On my '71 23, there are two backstays which join at a plate and a single backstay proceeds up from there. I have a topping lift installed on that plate to hold up the end of the boom when not under way.

Robert, I assume that you have one of the older, Pop-Top 23s, with a keel/Centerboard?
Anyway, the wire that you describe sounds like a previous owner installed a topping lift that would be adjustable at the boom-end using a length of line from an eye on the end of the boom up through that block and down to a cleat on the boom. Is there another small block near the end of the boom that the topping lift adjusting line would feed through? Then forward to a cleat?

On my 23, there's an eye at the end of the boom. My topping lift has a hook at the end.
