Anyone ever had a termite problem? I do now in my cabin woodwork. Can I seal all the openings and drop in bug bombs for a week or so, or spend $500 on an exterminator who will basically do the same thing with a tent. Any suggestions?

chlorine gas

If you don’t know how to make it, you really should get a pro. This is toxic, dangerous stuff. BUT, I once had a mobile home that had termites and black toxic mold, i sealed it and filled it with Chlorine gas for about 2 days, it killed both. It did take several more days to get the smell out though...

BoraCare

I'm not a licensed exterminator, nor do I play one on TV but if you have "dry wood" (assuming you don't have "subterranean") termites, your best bet may be BoraCare. (see link below) It's not cheap but once treated, the wood will be protected for basically the life of the boat. Chlorine may also kill the termites but my experience as an electrical engineer in high chlorine industrial enviroments (water treatment and pulp bleaching) tells me you'll have to replace all electrics and wiring shortly after the treatment. Either way, I would get professional advice. Not only is your investment at risk from termites, the future health of yourself and family members could be at risk from improper pesticide application. Noah had termites too

Seeing the threads original question I could not resist.. "Noah was a very brave man. He went sailing in a wooden boat with a pair of termites." author unknown.
